This is a picture of Matsuo Taisha

This is a picture of Matsuo Taisha, a shrine in the Arashiyama district of Kyoto. This is the oldest shrine in Kyoto and is dedicated to the God of Sake. It was built in 701 by Emporer Monmu. To see another picture of the shrine which shows all of the sake barrels given to the shrine by the various manufacturers for blessing. If you visit the shrine, be sure to check out the display on the history of making sake.

This image of Koi, carp, comes from the Tenryu-ji Temple in the Arashiyama District of Kyoto. While they would not normally come so close as a group, one can easily attract ALL the fish in the pond by purchasing some Koi food at a pet store! This temple has some very beautiful koi compared to some other locations. For the brightly colored koi, predation by birds can be a big problem.

This is a photo of the colored wax used by the artisans that make the plastic food that is seen in the windows of the various restaurants. Though unusual, we were lucky to have a tour of a factory which makes all sorts of food items for display. The foods that they make are truly amazing and look delicious. Once you have visited a factory, you can consider yourself a plastic food conniseur!
